WGJ4K: Mickey's Rebuttal WGJ4K: Mickey's Rebuttal

Rated 4 / 5 stars September 21, 2010

Your not-so-average mailbag hoedown

The jokes were good, I thought, as Mickey (as usual) excels at doing what he does best - being a dick. However, that's not what I liked most. What I did like most is that this episode wasn't a generic taking-the-piss-out-of-haters stream of gags, but also offered some hints into Mickey's backstory, which possibly makes him a substantially deeper character. I'm just bracing myself for the fact that there might be a tragic tale behind all this comedy veneer.
Anyway, good on ya! Waiting for more insights into Mickey.

Odd

Well, I can't help but to review this. since you personally asked me so nicely.
So, this is a trailer for an upcoming movie you made on your own - and even got to show it on the big screen - a great achievement, I might say.
I can't really review a trailer thoroughly enough, since I can't say much on the subject of characters, storyline and such, so I'll focus on art and animation.
The art style is admirable, though not completely perfect. Much detail in backgrounds and their genral look is definitely a plus. Animation is, well, awesome, for a single man's job. However, some things look a little too sloppy, with the squiggly outlines and such, but tha is bothersome only in static schots, while overall the animation does a pleasant job in livening them up. One thing though: I'm not a big fan of manga-style art, so I don't generally approve of it. But it doesn't mean I wouldn't go to see it, if I had the opportunity.
The storyline: well, not much to be told here, except for the fact that the trailer doesn't make much sense (It's either the trailer in general, or the movie itself, go figure). Rescued from who? Who's the fighter guy - the inventor? Then how come we see an old dude in a white labcoat straight up next and he seems to be the inventor? WHY does he want to make evil toys? Etc.
I'm saying that you should've probably organized the trailer a bit better, so it would give the viewers some meaningful information, and not just several impressive shots.
Still, if a movie has a consistent storyline and an intrguing plot, I'd definitely want to see it.
So there you go, one review, straight outta the oven. Too bad I don't login often enough, but, well, I did what you asked me. You owe me one ^_~
This is The Golden Knight, signing off.

...Overly dramatic

The art and animation in this piece are fairly nice, they lack smoothness in several moments, but overall are a good example of hard work being put in.
The music (being the very subject of the movie) was thoroughly enjoyable - real classy instrumental music is rarely spotted on the vast plains of Newgrounds.
But. There is a little matter of the script, the story. And this is where everything crashes, and all the effort is for naught.
I must say I had to get a grip of myself to watch this movie to the very end. Some indistinct feeling started bothering me at the "random beggar" scene already, and I did not know yet what it was. But a bit later I realised what it was: depression.
Yes, I was being depressed. Depressed by the sloppiness of it all, by the worn-out cliches the story utilised, by the unimpressing way the story arc was composed. The author's attempts at creating a "tear-jerker" made me want to bury myself in a heap of classical literature (or better yet - a pile of the worst, most sickeningly violent death metal albums ever) and do not come back until I feel emotionally intact again. Well, maybe I am over-dramatising it myself, but no-one is perfect.
But despite all that (that being my subjective perception, of course), the community loved it for reasons beyond my understanding. And if that works, well, good then.
The Golden Knight, signing off.

[R3R] Defense v.2 [R3R] Defense v.2

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars December 11, 2006

This is good, no?

However! It still needs work.
The game lacks point. After all, killing zombies and tanks in large quantities for points only gets repetitive over time.
There's no health, and no urge to survive as a result. But that's on your "to do" list, you know that very well yourself, don't you, you little pervert?
Some kind of plot would be a good thing too, just to give it all some sence.
But it's clearly better than the previous version, that's for sure.
Keep'em nukin'!
